You are not alone

I asked him why he was feeling depressed.

he replied, "I don't know how life brought me here in such circumstances. I grew up in a good family, had a high education. How did it end up like this?"

I then questioned if he could change the past, to which he responded with a simple "No." I suggested that he shouldn't dwell on it and instead let it go, focusing on the good.

He replied, "Sometimes it comes and goes."

After that brief conversation, it got me pondering why we experience bouts of sadness and what exactly is depression. I also wondered how we can prevent it from taking hold of our lives.

As I delved into the topic of depression, I realized that there is no definitive source of information that can provide all the answers. However, it did shed light on various aspects and perspectives surrounding this condition.

Back in 2007, when I tragically lost a friend to depression, it shook me to the core. I never imagined that someone I knew could be consumed by such darkness.

Depression is like a looming shadow that casts a gray hue over every aspect of a person's life. It keeps them trapped, preventing any possibility of escape. It's as if this shadow feeds on their suffering, causing those affected to hunch their shoulders and close themselves off. Psychologically, when we feel disconnected, alone, or unloved, we instinctively shield our hearts, hoping to avoid further pain.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but in today's world, many people suffer from depression due to feelings of isolation. They lack the support and sense of community that could provide solace in times of need. We have become so separated, each living in our own little bubble.

If you happen to know someone who is battling depression, please don't simply leave them be. They need you, even if they claim otherwise.

Here are a few suggestions to help you or anyone else facing mental or emotional challenges:

1. Take a daily walk. It may seem simple, but physical activity can have a positive impact on your mental well-being.

2. Keep your surroundings clean and organized. A tidy space can contribute to a sense of calm and clarity.

3. Maintain good posture, with your chest open and head held high. Believe it or not, this can have a significant effect on your brain's neurotransmitters.

4. Nourish your body with healthy, balanced meals. Proper nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining overall well-being.

5. Avoid isolating yourself. You don't necessarily need to be surrounded by people, but it's important to be in environments where you can witness happiness and positivity.

Remember, a little support and understanding can go a long way in helping someone navigate the darkness of depression.

Goodnight, everyone.
