Gathering for longevity

**Today, I asked myself a question: what is it about gathering that makes us have an appetite to eat more? Why do we feel the joy and taste the food better when we eat together, or is it just an illusion? **

The art of setting the table, the smells that surround us—from the food to the scents each of us wears, and even the aroma of the space where we’re eating—all combine to create a happy experience, a sense of satisfaction. I think my dopamine is at its peak when I have people over for dinner, which is why I love cooking and creating new dishes. It enhances this sense of happiness and contentment.

Traveling through different cuisines and trying new dishes is a joy, partly because it keeps us in the present moment. I believe that’s one of the reasons I enjoy cooking so much—it’s a form of meditation where all my senses are engaged. Mastering a dish is my way of saying to my guests, "I love you, and I want to share some happiness with you through my food."

Eating together helps keep us young and engaged in activities. It allows the mind to relax and the heart to expand, increasing our happiness hormones. Studies of centenarians have found that they stay engaged in social events, gather to cook and eat together, play, dance, and work—always with their hands, always out there embracing nature.

Life is great when we decide to live in the present moment. In this picture, I had Lilly, Rita, and Khaled over for dinner, and it was beautiful. I love it.

**Have a great day, everyone, and remember to stay present. **
